Robert Edward Andrews

We rejoice in the celebration of Robert Edward Andrews, born the third of nine children to Robert L. and Mamie D. Andrews on June 4, 1936 in Burnt Corn, Alabama. Father Robert, Mother Mamie, Brother Anderson Calvin, Sister Minnie preceded him in death. Robert spent his childhood in Alabama and received his education from Butterick Jr. High School, where he played basketball and Conecuh County High School in Evergreen, Alabama.
Robert moved to Tulare, California in 1955. He met the love of his life, Christine Grigsby and there were married August 3, 1958. To this union, three children were born.
Robert was self-driven, yet independent. After working various jobs, he became an entrepreneur opening a janitorial service and later a trucking/demolition business. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, setting an outstanding work ethic to many.
Surrendering his life to Christ at an early age, Robert was baptized at New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church in Burnt Corn, Alabama. In 1956, he united with Saint John Missionary Baptist Church. For more than sixty years, he became active in the Choir, Brotherhood, Trustee Board, Pastoral Care and many other ministries to support the growth and ministry of the church. Robert became Sunday School Superintendent in 1968 and remained in this position until his death. As Superintendent, he would pick up church members for Sunday School, in addition to morning worship service and special church outings. His commitment to the maintenance of the church property was evident as he made sure the lawn was immaculate and watered at all times.
Robert was raised to the sublime degree of Worshipful Master Mason and served as the chief officer of the A.E. Wright Lodge #47
Tuesday, October 27, 2020 marked the blessed transition of his life.
Robert leaves to cherish and share his memory: a loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Christine; children, Yvette Andrews-Mitchell (Eduar), Roger Andrews, Cynthia Andrews-Nesmith (James); grandchildren, Jeremy Andrews, Cherelle Andrews-Hayes (Rashawn), Andre Andrews, Roger Andrews, Jr., Darius Nesmith, Marcus Nesmith, Robert Fernandez, James Nesmith, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Marion James Andrews; sisters, Evelyn Lynum, Ora Gillespie, Lillie Rock, Mary Ann Graham, Phyllis Williams; brothers-in-love, Sylvester Grigsby, Sylvester Gillespie, Bruce Williams; sisters-in-love, Ernestine Dees, Eunice Andrews; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
