She found work at Louisiana Tech University along with her husband. it was at this time a child was conceived with her husband and born in that year of 1954. Pearlean was forced to leave her first born in Louisiana in the care of her mother with the intention of establishing a foundation to provide a better life and opportunity for her child's life. She and her husband were away from her birth place of Louisiana for 6 months residing in the state of California but ultimately returned to their home state of Louisiana in the year of 1963 and conceived 7 other children. A mother to 8 children: Daniel Harris, Larry Harris(whom was an unfortunate still birth), Mabeline Harris(Faison), Walter Harris (deceased) Linda Harris (Lake), Ethel Louise Harris, Clara Harris(Flenoid), Wilma Lorraine Harris(Murray) and Calvin Harris. Pearlean became a stay at home mother with the intent of creating a better life for her children. Her husband left the picture and she was left with the task and responsibility of raising her children alone. She worked two jobs to support her family. Her work ethic was unparalleled. However Pearlean was beginning to lose her eye sight. She was diagnosed with glaucoma and as she slowly began to lose her vision she was unable to continue to work.
Once more she returned to Louisiana with her son Walter who ultimately passed away from Kidney failure. After the passing of her son she returned to California and received care from her daughters. Her daughter Clara eventually became her sole caregiver and provider.
