Mittie Lett Crook, age 95 of Tulare, CA passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 28, 2023. Mittie was born on April 16, 1927, in Burnt Corn, Alabama to the late James Lett and Edith Puyear Lett.
She attended high school at Conecuh County Training School, where she excelled in academics and basketball. She attended a year of college at Alabama State University and was a teacher at a local elementary school, as a young adult.
Mittie met the love of her life, Lamar Crook, while attending Bethany Baptist Church, the local church that she was raised in and attended faithfully, while living in Alabama. Mittie and Lamar moved to California and enjoyed 58 years of marriage, raised six children, and were surrounded by a host of grandchildren before Lamar’s passing in 2002. Upon moving to Tulare, CA, Mittie became a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church.
Hobbies that Mittie has enjoyed over the years include fishing, cooking, baking, canning, tending to her garden, sewing, and crocheting. Mittie’s greatest passion was cooking and being surrounded by her family.
Mittie was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Lamar Crook Sr.; her two sons, Lamar Crook, Jr., and Kevin Crook; one daughter, Edith Crook; four brothers, Stonewall Jackson, Artherlie, Theodore Roosevelt, James Lett and one sister, Mazie Smith.
Mittie is survived by one sister, Annie Lee Lett, of Sacramento, CA; three daughter, Beverly Clark (James), Janie Ruth Johnson and Debra Mirschell Washington, of Tulare, CA, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
