The fact that she never drove and her English was limited did not prevent her from obtaining her goals in life.

She loved to sing and was a member of the choir in Madalena as well as a catechism teacher and a member of the Portuguese Choir of St. Aloysius Church. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church and the Altar Society.
Maria da Conceicao volunteered and donated her time and items for many events including the Parish Dinner, TDES Holy Spirit Celebration, Fatima Celebration, Rotary Club events, her parish in Madalena and sold tickets to fundraise for many other events. Many baked goods, doilies, table runners, tablecloths and bedspreads crafted by her skillful hands raised significant amounts of funds for the organizations she loved.
