Hans Behrens

Hans Behrens was born in Ovid Michigan. He was the second oldest of six children. Hans leaves behind two sisters, Katherine Behrens and Elizabeth Behrens Heimberger. He also leaves behind the Laureano and Cuevas family as they have been his family for more than 20 years.
Hans graduated as a valedictorian from Ovid High School where he earned a full ride scholarship to The University of Michigan. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. Hans was drafted to the Army in 1952. He served two years and worked as a Tele Equipment Mechanic. After serving in the Army, he wanted to further his education. Hans went back to the University of Michigan to pursue his master’s degree in education.
After receiving his degrees, he moved to Tulare, CA and began his teaching career at Maple Elementary. He taught at Maple School for 42 years. Hans had a passion for teaching, that he continued to do so by volunteering at Maple School even after retirement. Hans enjoyed being outdoors and would take many kids on camping trips. He also volunteered at Scicon after he retired until the age of 90. Hans was a happy man when he was outdoors. He loved being in the mountains and enjoyed playing with his two dogs. Anyone that knew Mr. Behrens knew he had a huge heart for teaching and taking kids on adventures.
Hans will be greatly missed by his family and the community. He will be remembered by all the great memories he left behind.
If anyone would like to attend Hans’ viewing, it will be held on May 30th, 2023 at Sterling & Smith which is located at 409 N. K Street Tulare, Ca from 2:00 pm – 6:00pm. Memorial services will be held on May 31st, 2023 at the Church of the Nazarene located at 1929 E. Bardsley Ave Tulare, Ca. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am and a luncheon will be held after.

Hans’ favorite place to be was Scicon, if anyone would like to donate to Scicon please donate to friendsofscicon.org.
