It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Gloria Patricia Comparan, born on April 20, 1935, in Cutler, California. Gloria was the youngest of six children born to Nikolas and Elpidia Aguilar.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her siblings: Leonard Aguilar, Severina Chavira, Mary Apodaca, and Josephine Rodriguez. She is survived by her cherished sister, Isabel Hurtado.
Gloria was a woman of many talents, including being a classically trained pianist, a passion she carried throughout her life. In her younger years, she also played the French horn in her school band, adding to her love of music and arts. After graduating from high school, Gloria moved to the Bay Area to pursue certification as a Dental Assistant. Her dedication and determination to create a fulfilling life was evident in all she pursued.
Gloria's life was marked by devotion, hard work, and a deep love for her family. After returning to her hometown, she continued her work in dentistry while working alongside her parents in the fields & vineyards. She married Viviano Comparan in 1958, then divorced. She was the proud mother of four daughters: Cynthia Comparan Pagetta of Flagstaff, Arizona, Yolanda Comparan of Newcastle,Washington, Cecilia Hawn of Long Beach, California, and Magdalena Walen of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Gloria’s daughters were all by her side during her final days. In her passing, Gloria is cherished by her four daughters, eight grandchildren: Mackenzie, Connor, Zachary, Eddie, Evalina, Jared, Jacob & Jasmine; and seven great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her spirit.
Once her daughters were all in elementary school, Gloria re-entered the workforce, embarking on a long and successful career in the accounting departments of Huffy Bikes and S.E. Rykoff & Company. She retired in 2005, closing a chapter of dedicated service and professional achievement.
Gloria’s greatest joys, however, were not confined to her work. She found happiness in traveling with her sisters, working on home improvement projects in her Long Beach, California home, and tending to her garden. Yet, more than anything, she treasured the time spent with her family, creating memories that will be held close by those who loved her.
Gloria's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
