Obituary

Ernestine Leon Nunez passed away January 04, 2024, in Tulare California with her family by her side. A resident of Corcoran California, she was born in Corcoran to Joseph & Anastacia Leon on August 1, 1948.

Throughout her childhood school years, she travelled between Corcoran California and El Centro California to follow her family and work. She graduated from Corcoran High School in 1966, and then attended College of Sequoias in Visalia where she earned her associate degree in 1968. She later had a brief residence in Santa Barbara California and later came back to live in Corcoran. She came to work for the Corcoran Police Department as a dispatcher, and later went to work for Security Pacific Bank (later Bank of America) where she retired after 20 years of service. She went on to work for the California Department of Corrections in the accounting department for the last 20 years of her career.

She married Luis Guerra Nunez. Before his passing in 1979, Ernestine had three children. Monica L. Reyes, Luis L. Nunez, and Jose L. Nunez.

Ernestine was a person that had a beautiful soul and loved everyone that she encountered. She was the most genuine person you could ever meet. She loved all her family and extended family very much and would do anything to help them. She was enthusiastic about her crochet projects and put a smile on everyone’s face she made something for. Her talents in crochet were above an average person crocheting blankets. She created stuffed animals and made her projects come to life.

Ernestine is preceded in death by her husband Luis Nunez, her father Joseph V. Leon, her mother Anastacia M. Leon, and her eldest brother Luis M. Leon.

She is survived by her siblings Lydia Warden of Fresno, Joseph Leon of Fresno, Jesus Leon of Hollister, and Alex Leon of Corcoran. Her three children Monica Reyes of Pixley, Luis Nunez of Corcoran and Jose Nunez of Corcoran. Her daughter-in-law Melissa Nunez of Corcoran, twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and so many extended grandchildren that considered her grandma that she loved and touched their lives as well.
