Derek Allen Schumaker

Derek Allen Schumaker, born 5/15/64, died at the age of 58, on June 5, 2022. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI to his parents Harlan & Patricia Kay Schumaker. He graduated from East Kentwood High School and Central Michigan University. He was member of the Coachman and Phantom Regiment Drum Corp where he performed all over the US, winning many awards. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Kay Goodspeed, in 1986. He had the honor to march in the 1987 Rose Bowl parade, the 1987 Rose Bowl, and the 1988 Gator Bowl for Michigan State University. In 2005, he and Bonnie made the move to California where Derek continued his career as a Band Director for the California school systems. He also continued his education, and proudly obtained his Master’s Degree in music. He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie Schumaker, his parents Harlan & Kay Schumaker, brother Dale & Allison Schumaker, sister-in law Jodi Schumaker, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother David Schumaker (2022). Celebration of Life services will be held at a later time.
