John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Dallas Joseph Reedom, Jr. was born in San Bernardino, CA on August 18, 1948, to parents Emma and Dallas Joseph Reedom, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. Dallas attended 20th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA; Earlimart Middle School; and Delano High School in Delano, CA. After his military service in 1970, he married Lena Harrison (who preceded him in death). Together they welcomed three children; Tenisha, Bobby, and Rasheed (who preceded him in death). Dallas enjoyed cooking, dancing, soulful music, eating good food and spending time with family/friends, and seeing young people have fun! During his lifetime, he worked as a truck driver for many companies including Beacon Butane and the US Postal Service.
Dallas was many things, he was a great tennis player, a great bbq’er, a dutiful and hard worker, a ‘sizer-up’ of people, a believer in and protector of ‘family’, and a ‘pain in the butt’ all at the same time…His deep laugh was infectious and could make you forget you were mad at him and that he had just pissed you off…He believed in fairness and fair pay for work done and agreed upon. He hated to feel as if someone was cheating him out of something, but he was alright with cheating you out of a little bit every now and again…Ha!!...
Dallas loved all his children, grandchildren, and great children. He loved his sister, ‘Punnie’ and spoke with her almost daily; chatting about his daily joys, plans, concerns, and struggles…but he was happiest around his ‘babies’ (his dogs) …
What made Dallas special is his ‘old school’ way of doing things and at heart he could be a very compassionate & caring person, willing to help just about anyone he met along the way. He knew he had many faults and like all of us as he grew older and matured, he began to see things differently. He was regretful about many of the decisions he made along the way and the missed opportunities to be a better husband, father, and friend. As he aged and his health began to change, he became more open to God ultimately confessing Jesus Christ as his Savior. Dallas passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023, in Visalia, CA. He was 74 years old.
For as long as each of us can remember, Dallas (affectionately known as “Uncle Dallas” by all his nieces and nephews) has been a ‘pillar’ in this family. We all loved him dearly and he will be sorely missed.
Dallas leaves to mourn his children Dallas III, Tenisha, Bobby, Jennifer, Darnell and Rasheed (both of whom preceded him in death); sisters Mary ‘Punnie’ Campbell of Los Angeles, CA, Sheila Wilkerson and Louella Reedom (both of whom preceded him in death); brothers Eddie Ray Reedom of Las Vegas, NV, Clyde Edward and Warren Jr. of Galveston, TX (both of whom preceded him in death); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
