Antonia ‘Tanie’ Hernandez (73) passed peacefully on January 16, 2023 with her loved ones at her bedside. She was born to Susana Martinez and Rodolfo Calderon in El Paso Texas, she was the sixth oldest of twelve children. Her family moved to Tulare in the early 50’s where Tanie attended Tulare schools, worked, and raised her family. Tanie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank Hernandez; her son, Frank Hernandez Jr.; daughters: Corina Hernandez (with Gabriel Arroyo), Rosalinda Marquez and son-in-law, Desi Marquez. Nine grandchildren: Mikayla Serna, Kandyce Hernandez, Gabriel Arroyo, Frankie Hernandez III, Raeann Hernandez, Angel Arroyo, Rebekah Arroyo, Marcus and Xavier Marquez. Five great-grandchildren: Devin, Desiree, and Hunter Serna, Alinah Alvarez-Hernandez, and Nathan Goodlin-Hernandez.
She also leaves behind her sisters: Angie Galvan, Martha (Sandy) Alvarez, Yolanda (Alfred) Palacios, Susan (Gerald) Foletta; Brothers: Martin Calderon, Ray Calderon, and Danny Cortez. Mother-in-law: Trinidad Hernandez. Sister-in-laws: Josie Hernandez, Aurora Hernandez, Genevieve Munoz, Dolores Peña, Angie Rodriguez, and Rachel Hernandez. Brother-in-laws: Leonard Hernandez, Armando (Sandra) Hernandez, Tony (Norma) Hernandez, and Johnny Hernandez.
Many cousins and even more nieces and nephews.
It brings us comfort that she has reunited with her Mom and her Pops. Her brothers Rudy(Cathy) Calderon, Charlie (Christina) Calderon, Joe Calderon, and Faustino Calderon; sister-in-law Caroline Hernandez, and granddaughter Kelsey Hernandez.
Mom loved reading and we always knew where we could find her; sitting at the dining room table with her cup of coffee or a glass of Diet Pepsi - reading the newspaper or her latest book. She also spent a lot of time in ‘Tanie’s Kitchen’, cooking, and baking her chocolate cakes or persimmon cookies.
She loved hearing her grandkids fight over who was her favorite. Nana had no favorites, she loved them all the same. But she would secretly tell each one of them that they were her favorite just to see them smile. We will miss hearing you call out just about everyone else’s name before saying the right one. We will forever treasure all of the hugs and advice that she gave us.
She was an amazing Wife, Mom, Nana, Sister, Tia, Cousin, and Friend, and will forever be missed.
